    Installation & Synchronization

Where do i get the .NET Framework Version 1.1 from ?

The .NET Framework Version 1.1 is available for download from Microsoft at Download .NET. This is a 23698 KB download.

Where do i get IIS from ?

IIS (Internet Information Server) is a key component of some versions of windows. (XP Pro, Win 2000/2003 Server etc)

To install it: Fom the run line type appwiz.cpl and then Add/remove Windows components and ensure that IIS is selected ?(it is usually the 5th from the top), you may need to have the Windows CD available.

Once you have done that run the aspnet_regiis.exe program, available in the WINNT\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.0.3705 directory (the vx.xxxx should be the latest one you have). Specifically, run the program as:

    aspnet_regiis -i

(The -i option installs the needed associations in IIS.)

The easiest way to run this is to go Start | Run and then Browse to the file location and then add a space and the -i.

It is possible that the location of this will be slightly different on your system, so if in doubt, search for aspnet_regiis.exe

The easiest way to do this is to search for aspnet_regiis.exe that corresponds to Framework\v1.x rather than Framework\V2.x and then from the search result pain right click on the file and choose the option "Open Containing Folder" then once the folder is open copy the path from the top line. Then paste this into the Start command and add aspnet_regiis.exe -i

"HTTP Method not allowed" or"unknown error" after logging on to Administration Console

This error typically occurs when IIS is installed after the .Net framework is installed. ie: If on a XP machine you choose to install IIS - XP includes the .Net framework.

What we need to do is associate the files with IIS.

run the aspnet_regiis.exe program, available in the WINNT\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.0.3705 directory. Specifically, run the program as:

    aspnet_regiis -i

(The -i option installs the needed associations in IIS.)

It is possible that the location of this will be slightly different on your system, so if in doubt, search for aspnet_regiis.exe.

I get an error saying "Server Time and Client Time Unsynchronized"

GroupOutlook requires that client and server times are within 10 seconds of each other. This makes sense because accuracy is needed when making appointments or checking for new items. If the times are not within 10 seconds of each other you will see the message Server and Client Unsynchronized
To resolve this the easiest way is to synchronize machines with a time server. This can be done using the Internet Time Tab on Date / Time settings.
Set Time By a Time Server
Some machines simply will not keep accurate time and need a little more assistance, some users have reported good stories working with freeware NETTIME

I get an error relating to "Operation must use an updateable query"

This is a permissions issue - mainly experienced on Windows 2003. To resolve this the permissions need to be relaxed on c:\program files\amarillosoftware\groupoutlook on the server. Give Everybody and IWAM_machinename full permission to all files and folders from this point.

    Purchasing

How many licenses do i need ?

You need a license for each person that needs to have GroupOutlook installed within their copy of Microsoft Outlook. It is not possible to share GroupOutlook logins, doing so will result in data loss.

However, if you wish to share the management of a person's calendar, and that person will not themselves log into Outlook to see that data, then there is no need to purchase a license for them. Instead you can create a Public Folder of type Calendar and set the appropriate access for the members of your organization that you have bought a license for.
